GLAMOUR's new fitness columnist, Bradley Simmonds, on the health mantras he swears by

If you love health and fitness then you most likely follow on Instagram.

The former professional footballer for clubs such as Chelsea FC and Queens Park Rangers went on to become a PT for the likes of top footballers including John Terry and Theo Walcott.

Since then, through the power of social media, Bradley has engineered a wellness platform like no other - providing fitness enthusiasts around the world with new workout routines and daily motivational posts (and a healthy dose of eye candy on our Insta feed...).

As well as being the go-to fitness guru for the world's best athletes, a social media sensation and a best-selling author (Bradley has just released his first book, Get It Done: My Plan, Your Goal: 60 Recipes and Workout Sessions for a Fit, Lean Body), Bradley is now GLAMOUR's resident fitness columnist.

Hello, GLAMOUR readers!

Welcome to my Health & Fitness column. Here you’ll read all about my opinions on the latest trends and whether they’re simply just fads or something we all need to include in our lives. I’ll also be giving you my tips and tricks to getting fitter and stronger and I’ll be highlighting my go-to pre and post workout foods.

If you know me, you’ll know my approach to health and fitness is pretty much no-nonsense, so be prepared for nothing but the truth. There’s certainly no myths here. Here are the 5 fail-safe wellness mantras I swear by that you can easily fit into your daily life.

1. Quality & Quantity

These two Q’s are both relevant to my ethos on food and fitness. I believe it’s essential to eat a variety of quality foods in the right quantities in order to fuel our bodies in the most effective way. I also believe exercise is only worthwhile when the effort is put in, the technique is right and it is done regularly.

2. Rest & Relax

I’ve learnt over the years how important it is to rest the body & to unwind. Without this valuable recovery time, our bodies will begin to shut down. Everyone’s idea of relaxation & rest is different. For me, I like to walk the dogs or go to the cinema and for others, it’s yoga, or meditation. Whatever works for you, make sure you include it in your weekly regime.

3. Don’t Compare

I have never seen anyone else as my competition, just the person I was yesterday. For me, comparing ourselves to the next person can damage our self-esteem and motivation. Focus on you!

4. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great

This is my favourite quote of all time. It’s a quote I share with my followers and clients regularly. We all have to start somewhere, even the greatest most talented of people started at the bottom. Don’t wait another day to begin your journey.

5. No Excuses, Get It Done

Excuses are my pet hate. You either want it or you don’t and if you care enough about your health and wellbeing, you’ll get it done. Even if it’s 30 minutes of HIIT or a long walk in the park, stop holding yourself back from progression and the benefits that a healthy lifestyle brings.
