Ed Sheeran hits back at his Glastonbury performance critics

He's been accused of using a backing track

Ed Sheeran's headline set at Glastonbury on Sunday was a highlight of the festival for many, but the singer has been accused of miming and using a backing track during his performance.

Fans on Twitter complained that Ed was using pre-recorded music, unaware that he often uses a loop station when performing solo. This allows him to layer his vocals and instrumentals while he's on stage, which is a skill in itself. Remember his 2015 BRIT Awards performance?

But people aren't happy:

Ed Sheeran just using loads of pre-recorded stuff, miming and not even pretending to play his guitar half the time 😂😂

— Daz Bob 🎅🏾 (@dazbob666)

Mystified by Ed Sheeran's live performance. He seems to record something, loop it, and then perform to a backing track? Not impressed...

— Paul (@Run_Dolly_Run)

Did Ed Sheeran just mime? Guitar playing while he adjusted his mic.

After face-palming several times, Ed responded to explain the situation:

Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x

Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x

His performance has been met with mixed reviews from critics, but it's also received a lot of love online:

Ed sheeran is on a different level. One guitar and a loop pedal. Insanely talented

— Mike Walker (@mikewalker_mgn)

Ed Sheeran is different gravy. Realises guitar is out of tune, carries on with Bloodstream, whilst tuning & re-recording loop simultaneously

— Olly (@ollylwest)

When does Bloodstream live, I watch in awe. To me, it's nothing short of incredible.

Damn Ed Sheeran u good

— Josh (@JoshRyanUK)

Ed Sheeran is the f*cking man. Next question.
