You may have spent the winter months cocooned in cashmere with your hair scraped back into a carefree top knot, but it's time to take back control of your mane because SS18's hair trends are worth reaching for your Tangle Teazer.
We've enlisted hair supremo Larry King, who counts Gigi Hadid, Pixie Lott and Zayn Malik among his clients, to break down the five key hairstyles that are going to be big news this spring. Consider this your ultimate lesson in new season hair trends.
1. Power Dressing for your hair
"SS18 hair is just a bit more badass than we've seen in recent years. I think the tone of the world now calls for a little anarchy because women want to feel like they're being taken seriously. The long loose waves we've seen over the past few years that cover so much of the face can feel a bit staged in the world of new feminism.
"It's all about being individual and bold. It's like power dressing for your hair. We're reminiscing in rock n roll, late 80s and the grimy 90s. Look to Courtney Love, Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder and the powerful 90s supermodels for the ultimate inspiration. This can be seen in both styling and colour.
"Blonde, for example, is fiercer than ever before and it's great that shorter crops are coming back. I love the Winona Ryder pixie crop of the late eighties and early nineties, it's the perfect mix of femininity and androgyny.
2. The Supermodel Sweep
"The return of the 90s supermodels have brought with them the return of the big blow dry and the super-low side parting. Try sweeping hair over to one side in a big voluminous quiff, which opens up the face and feels fun and fresh. It works well with thicker and curly hair types or with shorter lengths, too.
"Add a good volumising spray and some mousse like , and blow dry the hair using the Dyson Supersonic and a round brush. Pop in some oversized rollers until it's time to leave the house, then shake out and flip over to one side before spritzing with Redken's Windblown for the ultimate hairstyle with attitude."
3. Natural Textures
"Everyone's talking about hair health at the moment. I'm a big champion of working with your natural texture and keeping it in prime condition. Your hair will always look its most healthy when you enhance what's natural.
"I love the natural texture of curls and they will remain a huge part of SS18 trends. I love curls with a full fringe or dried fluffier and flipped back off the face; think Julia Roberts's beautiful full curls in 1990."
4. Sweet Violets
"As soon as Pantone announced its colour of the year last month, everyones gone "ultra" crazy. As seen all over the runway in both hair and make up looks from Jeremy Scott to Tom Ford, Ultra Violet is set to be the big colour of the summer.
"So, if you're already considering weekend wash-in-wash-out pastels or festival brights, go Ultra Violet. 'It's great with all skin tones and can be super bright or beautifully muted, cooled down or made rosie. I love it with eyebrows to match', says my queen of colour, colourist Harriet Muldoon.
5. Accessories All Areas
"Hair accessories are back with a vengeance. I'm loving the Sid Pin, it's the perfect accessory for an easy up do. Scrunchies, bull dog clips and combs are all back, too. Look out for metallic bull dog clips, transparent combs and pastel scrunchies for a cool spring update. The bull dog clip is great for a quick messy chignon, meanwhile, scrunchies are best left in a simple low pony."
If Larry's trend forecasts are anything to go by, you better arm yourself with a dog clip, scrunchie and a truck load of mousse, stat!
