Photoshop has been around for years, but as our Instagram obsession grew, so did the demand for selfie-editing apps. Now anyone can airbrush their photos at the click of a button, creating more unattainable beauty standards than ever. Has it been taken too far?
YouTube beauty guru and GLAMOUR cover star Huda Kattan recently got real on Instagram, showing a photo of herself before and after FaceTune. Using the editing app, Huda made her hair fuller, her skin smoother and her waist smaller. It probably took less than five minutes.
She captioned the post: "I started feeling like people were waaay too into Facetune (myself included), but we don’t need it as much as we think we do and I feel sometimes we go too far! This photo is exaggerated, but I was inspired by some videos I saw on photoshop! What do you guys think? Are you guys a fan of photoshop or do you think people take it took far? This topic is pretty embarrassing for me to open up about but I feel it has to be done! I will use it in the future, but I think as a community we can all try to use it less."
It's pretty refreshing to see someone admit to using an editing app too much - well done, Huda.
While we don't expect the trend to slow down anytime soon, keep it in mind when you're scrolling through your Instagram feed. And don't compare yourself to other people's selfies, they're probably not real.
