Victoria Magrath, a.k.a , has established herself as one of Instagram's most-followed style stars and she's now our resident fashion columnist. Each fortnight, Victoria will be sharing her best style secrets, hacks and insider intel from the hottest events. In her second column, Victoria reveals which trends she's coveting from fashion month and how she'll be wearing them from runway to real life come Autumn.
"Fashion Month is a spectacle for everyone - from those who attend, to the people who watch on Instagram. But let’s face it, instastories are actually the best way to keep up with what’s happening on the catwalks, live from the frow. So, whilst I could go through a number of my favourite shows, giving you a rundown of the fabrics used, the models who closed the runway and how atmospheric the designer had made the event, the chances are that you’ll have already seen all that.
Rather than the aforementioned, what I love to take from Fashion Month is two simple things: What my favourite items from the catwalk were that I could buy in the stores next season, and what were the key trends that I loved the most overall and how I can make them work for me.
Hopefully you might feel the same. So, here is my round-up of the items I loved and the wearable trends you’ll want to be wearing for Autumn Winter 2018!
1. The Dior Belt
Get ready to see everyone and their cat wearing this chunky, logo heavy belt for Autumn. Honestly, as soon as I can get my hands on one, I will be first in line. They looked so chic tied around jackets, dresses and skirts for the Dior show, and any branded item that outwardly displays my love for Dior is OK by me. But, if Dior isn’t your thing, huge, heavy belts were also seen at Versace, so I have a feeling they’re going to be everywhere.
2. Silver metallics
This trend became very apparent at the Balmain show, where a strong collection of shining silver dresses made their way down the catwalk, and my Autumnal self screamed inside. Silver is always my colour, but to see autumn fashion move into the bright and shiny silver spectrum of metallics - rather than golds - makes me so excited for Christmas parties! Silvers were also spotted at Dior, Off White and Christopher Kane, to name but a few.
3. Printed silks
Dresses, jackets and skirts - all made in the most beautiful printed silks - were everywhere. Even the Queen was front row to see the majestic patterned dresses by Richard Quinn, whilst Oscar De La Renta displayed a stunning collection of floral silk pussybow dresses. Be sure to add one to your wardrobe come Autumn.
4. Logo life
Loud and proud logos were everywhere, and I feel they have been creeping their way into our wardrobes for the past year or so. Gucci has led the way for heavy logo usage in accessories and clothing collections for the past few years and Balenciaga, Dior and Dolce and Gabbana have all followed suit over the past few seasons. But this year it was really apparent on the catwalks. Off White, Fendi, Philipp Plein, Versace and Prada had their logos emblazoned on jumpers, T-shirts, belts and bags for all to see. And whilst two years ago I was not about the logo life, I must admit, I like to dabble in some heavy branding whenever the mood takes me.
So whose as excited for Autumn as I am?"
