Everyone's talking about who'll play Jodie Whittaker's companion when she takes the plunge as Doctor Who's first female Doctor, and one familiar name has popped up again – Kris Marshall.
The Love, Actually and My Family actor, currently sunning himself in detective drama Death in Paradise, was a name that kept – erroneously – popping up before Whittaker was announced in the role, and now he's being named as a possibility to play the companion.
A source told , “Kris is a big fan of the show and the BBC are a big fan of his.”
Fan favourite Pearl Mackie, who played Peter Capaldi's assistant Bill Potts, was written out after just one season when Bill was turned into a Cyberman and then flew off to explore the galaxy with a love interest she first encountered in the first episode of the season.
The Doctor's other assistant, Nardole, played by Matt Lucas, is still on board the TARDIS.
Fingers crossed Marshall is actually cast, or that he ends up on this year's Strictly Come Dancing, because otherwise we've heard his name bandied around for aaaaaages for no real reason.
