This fashion campaign is the most empowering thing we've seen in a really long time

Jumping aboard the body positivity movement.

08 Jun 2018

Fashion is becoming more and more inclusive by the day - and about time, too!

The latest fashion campaign to jump aboard the body positivity movement is In The Style, who have just unveiled this incredibly empowering shoot.

Leading the charge is activist and self-love campaigner La’Tecia Thomas who has created an inclusive range and called on her diverse girl squad to promote it.

GLAMOUR UK caught up with La’Tecia to find out all about the campaign, the kickass women starring in it and her plans to dominate the fashion industry in the future.

This campaign is one of the most diverse to date

"This campaign is showcasing the collection I designed with In The Style with a squad of diverse, empowered women. It meant a great deal to ensure we had women in the squad that are relatable. Our size range is from a UK 14-28; it was important to me to have a variety of women reflecting the actual size range we carry in the campaign. I want women to feel confident, sexy and feminine in my collection and I really feel that beauty and style isn’t defined by your size, which is the message we are pushing with this campaign. We’ve used powerful quotes and messages that I like, to empower women and encourage them to love themselves unapologetically."

My squad is so diverse

What I love about the squad is firstly the diversity, everyone has a different height, a different size, a different ethnicity; every woman in the squad is beautifully unique. Also, let me talk about the confidence every single one of these women radiated! It was so empowering to be around these women and it was so surreal to see my pieces on women of all shapes and sizes.

These are my top three tips for embracing body positivity

  1. It’s so important to have a positive mind and body relationship.
Firstly, I try not to compare myself to anyone else. It doesn’t matter who; friends, celebrities, colleagues - just don’t do it. Own the body you have, it’s yours and no one else’s.
  2. I avoid speaking negatively or critically of myself. I like to speak positively about my body, I feel this manifests a positive outlook.
  3. Don’t focus on numbers. It’s so easy to fixate on the numbers or on the label on the inside of your clothing. If you feel great, you will look amazing! Your confidence and beauty shouldn’t be defined by a number or your size.

The styling mantras I live by

I love wearing prints and bold colours.

Don’t be afraid of lighter shades, either. I feel as though there has been an expectation in society for women to avoid wearing white and lighter shades. If you’re wanting to experiment, try a light shade dress or top with a print so it’s not a dramatic change from wearing black. You’ll surprise yourself.

I love wrap style crop tops with high-waisted bottoms such as skirts and pants. I think a lot of women are concerned about showing their waist but I think it’s flattering, especially when teamed with a high-waisted bottom.

And, of course, own it! If you feel great in what you’re wearing, it will translate.
