The most wonderful thing about humans is that we're all different. In personality, in tastes, and of course, in appearance. While we've definitely moved towards a society that's more accepting and less judgemental, there is a minority who are still close-minded and uneducated, whose words can be pretty damaging.
Peter 'PJ' DeVito is a photographer and student at The Fashion Institute of Technology and his work has been gaining a large amount of attention in recent months. With an Instagram account boasting over 80,000 followers, he posts photographs of people with albinism, vitiligo, and other skin-related conditions, along with a selection of rude questions and comments they've received their entire lives.
The photos feature men and women from all walks of life, with the cruel words people have said to them attached to their faces.
The portrait collection also gives those on the receiving end of the comments a chance to respond, and the letters have delivered some touching results.
Let's face it, the world would be pretty darn boring if we all looked exactly the same. We're so glad that Peter is giving people a platform to speak out and educate us about how comments that might seem off-the-cuff could cause a lifetime of hurt and shame.
This is what real beauty looks like around the world
