Is there a rule in celeb-land that when your relationship is going well and you're experiencing oodles of success that rumours have to circulate that your relationship is on the brink? If Maya Jama and Stormzy's relationship is anything to go off, it certainly seems that way.
They're basically the Kim and Kanye of the UK and are killing it in their respective fields, but the rumour mill has gone into overdrive this week after it was revealed that Stormzy had UNFOLLOWED Maya on Twitter. *Gasp*
As well as this, he hasn't posted a selfie with her since January, AND they didn't post a Valentine's Day message to each other. Could it be that they just don't celebrate Valentine's Day? Or wanted to keep their sentiments private?
To subtly deny the rumours, Maya took to Instagram Stories last night with a video of Stormzy dancing in what looks like a hotel. In the video, Maya sings 'not letting go, not letting go, hey!' while Stormzy dances along. Stormzy also posted a defiant Boomerang of him and Maya on Stories with a love heart - for a couple about to 'split', they seem pretty happy together.
Maya also posted a photo of herself on her Instagram feed with the caption 'Slow news day'. Loud and clear Maya, loud and clear.
We always knew this pair were destined to be together forever.
They're notoriously private about their relationship, but fans of the couple were sobbing all over the place after Maya took to Instagram to congratulate her BRIT award-winning beau.
"Proud is an understatement! You put everything into the album and work harder and are more passionate about what you do then (sic) anyone I know, you are inspiring on so many levels and everyone around you is blessed to have you, you deserve everything that comes your way, you are changing history and it is such a pleasure to witness you grow into the most incredible human...the actual best."[ id="BfgUKcClP9J"]
The grime superstar and TV and radio presenter generally avoided discussing the intimate details of their relationship until they were interviewed for .
The couple discussed everything from their incredible rise to success to the electric moment they met – and how they’ve kept that spark alive for over three years.
Jama recalls: “We met at Red Bull Culture Clash (a global music event where rap, grime, and EDM crews compete against one another). You know, if I’m really honest, I knew I fancied him from the start. But I didn’t want anything yet, because, you know, you’re trying to do the whole friend situation first, and then I’d do, like, obvious hints that I fancied him and then take it back because I didn’t know if he definitely liked me. It was a childish phase. And then one day we just kissed, and that was that!”
“It was three years and one month ago exactly,” adds Stormzy.
As anyone who follows them on social media will know, the couple live together in West London. But with both of their careers skyrocketing, they’re often separated for long periods by work. So how do they make their relationship last?
“The fact that we love each other. That’s the main thing, right?” Maya tells Vogue US, and Stormzy agrees.
As for their future, their only plan is to go with the flow. “We’re 23, 24 years old; we don’t make plans!” Jama laughs. “Just carry on floating. We’ll see where it takes us.”
Our hearts. Like we said, together forever.
