You know when your friend gets engaged, and you’re totally over the moon for her and all, but the most exciting part is actually trying on the ring? Well, now you can play this very fun game anywhere you want, whether you or any of your gang are engaged or not.
Engagement ring etailer Diamond Hedge has launched an AR iPhone app to allow you to digitally ‘try on’ different diamond rings. No getting dressed, no going to a fancy jewellers, and, come to think of it, no actual fiancé required.
There’s been a lot of talk about AR (that’s augmented reality) lately, with most fashion-industry forecasters predicting the technology will completely change the way we buy.
So this app is at the cutting edge of virtual-shopping tech. How does it work? Well, you basically get to customise your perfect ring, by choosing the carat size (ranging from 1ct to 5ct), diamond shape (there are 10 types including emerald, round, princess, oval, cushion, heart and pear) and finally the band. There are 20 different designs to choose from, in white, rose and yellow gold, with jewelled bands, twisted, tapered… the list goes on.
Once these important decisions have been made, just point your phone’s camera at your hand, and drag the ring of your dreams onto your finger!
17 unique engagement rings (a girl can dream!)
It’s a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but works pretty well – you can try every combination of carat, shape and band you can think of, experiment with lighting, backgrounds, even waggle your fingers to see how the ring might sparkle in the sunlight… OK, so maybe we’re a little hooked on this now.
Once you’ve chosen your ideal ring – or giant, unachievable rock (nothing says this has to be grounded in reality) – you can click through to shop it, or, em, just take a picture to send to your mates/significant other as a massive hint.
