With her own line of red lipsticks in collaboration with , she knows a thing or two about a statement lip. Here she shares her six rules for perfecting yours...
Prep your lips
“Rule number one: use a lip scrub. Or you can just rub your lips with a baby wipe. Don’t use a balm, because it won’t allow the colour to transfer onto your lips, it’ll be a barrier. If you have to, put it on about 10 minutes before to allow it to soak in. I like a ChapStick or the Decleor Lip Balm, nothing too greasy.”
Trial and error
“You need to try a lot of different lipsticks. It’s difficult to say which colour is best for each skin tone, because it all depends on how much redness you have coming through and what colour your eyes and hair are. Pop Art is my favourite from my collection, because if I’m going to wear red, I’m going to go for it. Regal Red is the shade I think would suit everybody. It doesn't have too much of an orange or blue undertone.”
Make it matte
“I definitely like a matte red lip, it’s chicer. It’s also more manageable throughout the day. If you wear a glossy one, it’s going to need a lot of maintenance. You really have to be on it.”
Perfect your liner skills
“The key to a great lip line is to smile to stretch your mouth. Don’t try and do it with your mouth normally because it’ll go all feathery. I don’t advocate over-lining. I’ve noticed people overdo it and in a darker colour as well. It just looks a bit dirty. If you’re going to do it, use a lighter colour than the lipstick you’ll use. Work with what you’ve got, don’t try and make yourself something else.”
Less is more
“If you want to look modern, personally I wouldn’t even use mascara. I’d just want amazing skin, a sculpted face and groomed brows. Too much mascara can make you look older. I love the 3INA Waterproof Definition Mascara for a natural look.”
“If you’re going to wear a red lip, you need to be confident about it. You can’t just put it on and hope no one will notice. You’ve got to be like: I’m wearing it and I feel great about it.”
