Last night One Direction suffered technical difficulties on the first evening of their six-night run at London's O2 arena, and ex-bandmate Zayn Malik posted a tweet that could be seen as a little bit provocative.
The One-D boys attempted to perform their recent song Night Changes to the audience of 20,000 but had to restart three times due to problems with their inner-ear headphones. Ever the gents, the bandmates apologised to the crowd while sound engineers beavered away back stage trying to fix the problem. Harry joked: "We were caught with our pants down, we were exposed."
At roughly the same time this was happening, Zayn posted a Tweet :"Forget about gimmicks; it's all about lyrics," which some have suggested could be a dig at the One-D boys.
Malik famously tweeted that he was going to make "real music" when he left the band and signed a solo deal with RCA Records, so it won't be the first time he's insulted the boys. Careful Zane; Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis have got the Directioners behind them, and they are not a group to start upsetting.

Liam Payne paid tribute to five years of One Direction, writing on Twitter: "Wowwwww 5 years 5 boys what an amazing journey I couldn't thank you all ever enough and thank you Louis Niall Harry and Zayn for everything."
"Thanks for all the memories boys I love you all," he added.
Zayn replied to the mention, writing "Thanks bro,' followed by a smiley face emoji and a kiss.
Zayn left the band in March, saying that he wanted to be a "normal 22-year-old," but then started working on solo material.
Other members of the band also marked the milestone. "We have been a band for five years. And it is impossible to thank anyone enough for all the support they have given us over this time," wrote Harry Styles.
While Niall wrote: "5 years, literally sittin [sic] down talking about last night. Insane! I remember the day we were out together like it was yesterday! Thank you so much for what you've done for us so far, what an incredible journey it's been, wish we could thank you all. [sic]"
Louis Tomlinson has been silent on social media since it emerged last week that he is expecting a child with Briana Jungwirth, and he didn't make a post to mark the occasion.

Simon Cowell's record label Syco has denied reports that it's dropped Zayn Malik.
The One Direction star quit the band back in March and yesterday the tabloids reported that he had parted ways with his former mentor because Simon didn't feel comfortable managing his former band and Zayn's solo career.
This has not been emphatically denied by the Cowell camp.
"Zayn is still with Syco," a spokesperson for the label reported.

"This is a big statement by Perrie and Zayn. They've had to shoot down rumours of a split after his exit from the band and this is both of them showing everyone just how serious they are."
"They're engaged and need somewhere they can both call home - and this house is it."
The property is thought to be split into two wings and has a three-bedroom guest cottage.
Since leaving One Direction, Zayn "has a bit more time on his hands than he used to...this is a good place to be for him to hang out with mates or just spend some time alone. Plus it is just half an hour or so from London so Zayn won't be going into exile just yet."

The loyal Mother spoke out in opposition to these suggestions, arguing that "It was his [Zayn's] decision and nothing to do with Perrie".
Debbie also commented on the pair's relationship: "They've always been happy…Zayn's one of the nicest boys I've ever met and I couldn't imagine Perrie with anyone else."

Speaking for the first time, Lauren Richardson insists she did not spend the night with Zayn Malik - and simply approached the singer for a picture.
Phew! We can all sleep easier tonight.
As you might know, the girl in the photo from *that* night in Seduction nightclub is one of the new stars of Love Island, hosted by Caroline Flack.
She says: "I just thought they are in touching distance so I just went over. I said, 'Can I have a picture?' And he said, 'No problem.'
"In my caption I said, 'Partying with 1D'. It was an innocent picture. That's the crazy thing.
"People think more went on. That's going to be the funniest thing about it when they go, 'Don't we look stupid now we've blown it out of context'."
Lauren insists she took a taxi home alone. Speaking about the band's fans, she says: "It got bad. There were death threats, people saying I'm a homewrecker, or writing, 'I want to find you.'
"There was a lot of hate. I was scared. You think, 'Are they going to find me?'"

Nathan Sykes was our guest at last night's GLAMOUR Awards, walking the red carpet for the first time as a solo artist. We were keen to get his thoughts on how fellow ex-boybander Zayn Malik will cope now that he's left One Direction.
"I don't think I'm one to offer Zayn advice," he told us. "I think he knows what he's doing, he's really talented. All the 1D boys are very very successful. I'm not in a place to offer him advice."
Speaking about life since going solo he said: "I'm really enjoying it. Everyone's being so nice and positive about the single so I'm having a blast, it's great."
"This is one of the nights of the year that people talk about in London so I'm excited to be here and celebrating women."

Not her own show - but Lauren Richardson is reportedly joining ITV2's Love Island.
The show, hosted by Caroline Flack, features single celebrities looking for lurve on a remote island far far away. Well, not that far - Menorca.
If you remember correctly, Lauren Richardson was catapulted into the limelight when pictures emerged of her appearing to hold hands with former One Direction star Zayn Malik in Thailand.
The blonde clubber - who found herself at the centre of "did Zayn cheat?" speculation - is now reportedly heading for ITV2's Love Island.
After the photo of Zayn and Lauren went viral, the 22-year-old star declared his love for fiancée Perrie Edwards and said: "I'm sorry for what it looks like."
And while Zayn denied the pair had a fling, Lauren has never spoken publicly about what happened at Seduction nightclub in Phuket - even though she found herself on the receiving end of online abuse from angry One Direction fans.
Will Lauren speak about the night in that Phuket nightclub? Will she spill the beans about the aftermath? Will she find love? Only time will tell…
We've reached out to ITV for an official word - but the show's line-up will be announced on Tuesday next week.
A source told The Mirror: "Lauren sees Love Island as a great opportunity for people to see the real her. She has kept a low profile since the stories ran about her and Zayn, and there are a lot of untruths that she wants corrected."
They added: "She never asked for the attention but now wants something positive to come from the situation.
"She is looking forward to getting to Majorca and, hopefully, finding love in the process."
Love Island starts on Sunday, 7 June.

Who knew Zayn Malik was so romantic? It turns out that the Bradford boy left One Direction to save his relationship with his girlfriend, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards.
How do we know this? The sensible Liam Payne, of course.
The 1D star - who is forever talking on behalf of the band - has revealed Zayn decided to leave the band back in March in a bid to rescue his romance with Perrie, as well as to spend more time with his family.[ id="08_Zm9o9M9"]
Liam revealed: "He wanted to spend time with his family and his missus. That's cool with us."
It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, Zayn did tell the world that he was leaving to lead a "normal" life.[ id="0-_GHyI9Js"]
Liam insisted there are no hard feelings between himself, Zayn and the remaining band members Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, as they can understand his motives.
He told Lisa Snowdon on Capital FM: "Sometimes you have to move on because you're not enjoying what you're doing as much as you used to."
Shortly after Zayn announced he would leave the band, fans took to Twitter to blame Perrie for making him leave, angrily comparing her to the wife of late Beatles musician John Lennon, Yoko Ono, who was rumoured to have caused tension within the band at the height of their fame in the 1960s.
One fan tweeted: "Perrie's the modern day Yoko Ono ... I can't believe this. (sic)"

Last night One Direction went on The Late Late Show to visit their mate James Corden. It's the interview One Directioners have been waiting for; the first interview since Zayn Malik left the band.
The new foursome did touch on the subject of Zayn leaving, and James even asked Louis Tomlinson about the Twitter spat they had recently. On that subject he said: "We are on good terms.
"It has all been resolved, I have never have been good at holding my tongue I think I get it from me mum."
Speaking of Zayn, the ever so sensible Liam Payne admitted they initially felt a little angry and hurt when Zayn told them about his decision to leave the band. However, he also pointed out that they had seen the signs coming for a while, and they "wish him the best".
Liam added: "We were angry but it's better now. There were parts of this job that Zayn loved, but there were parts he hated. And you can't hate this job at all, or only like some of it. So he had to do what was best for him."
"We wish him the best of luck...No hard feelings."
Asked if they ever considered breaking up after Zayn left, Niall Horan insisted it had never even been an option. "Not at all," he said. "The four of us love every part of it. The songs have been great and the fans deserve it. They've been absolutely fantastic to us."

In case you've been living under a rock, it all kicked off on Twitter after 1D's Louis Tomlinson traded blows with Naughty Boy, who Zayn's recording his solo material with.
Taking a not-so subtle dig at Naughty Boy's heavily edited shot of himself with his former bandmate, Louis tweeted: "Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha! Some people still do HA!".
It took a turn for the worst when the former 1D heartthrob waded in, tweeting "Remember when you had a life and stopped making bitchy comments about mine?"
The Bradfordian felt the wrath of One Direction fans as more than 90,000 of them unfollowed his account.
Zayn then took to his Twitter account to defend himself: "Don't know why I'm being attacked for defending myself, people got it twisted! I love my fans?! Every single one of you x" .
It's not the first time Zayn has lost followers since collaborating with the 30-year-old producer. After Naughty Boy tweeted a link to a Soundcloud demo in April, accompanied by the phrase "let the music do the talking", Zayn lost a whopping 50k Twitter followers overnight.
Chin up though Zayn, you've still only got 14.6m followers!

A month and a half has passed since Zayn Malik left One Direction and it has come to pass that all is not well between the two camps. In what is the social media equivalent of Hugh Grant and Colin Firth fighting in Bridget Jones, a Twitter 'feud' has erupted.
As we all know, Malik has been working with producer Naughty Boy on a new solo career. Yesterday, the producer tweeted a picture of himself with the former boy band member in the studio.
The aforementioned image featured a spotty filter, which 1D member Louis Tomlinson saw fit to criticise.
Malik did not take such an insult lying down and responded to Tomlinson (and to the Twitter universe - why oh why did he not just send a text, a what's app message even???). The tweet has since been retweeted over 200,000 times.
Malik, who appears to have many, many feelings, then clarified to his fans that he loves them very much:
Dear Zayn, Dear Louis, it's time to pick up the phone and have a chat. And Naughty Boy congratulations again for upping your profile.

During a livestreamed physics lesson livestreamed at the Sydney Opera House from his Cambridge home, Hawking was asked the pertinent question of: "What do you think is the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions of teenage girls across the world?"
"Finally, a question about something important," Hawking said. "My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes."
"It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe - and in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."
There we have it: In fairer, more reasonable universes Zayn is still part of 1D and the world makes sense again.

Apart from a couple of retweets during the Asian Awards on Friday night, Zayn Malik hasn't actually tweeted since the infamous "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous fucks in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x" tweet.
Until now - he has finally broken his Twitter silence.
Earlier today (20 April 2015) Zayn tweeted to his 14.6 million followers: "Wanna say thanks to everyone that's been there for me over the last few weeks, love you all.. you know who you are x"
Afterwards, he tweeted...
He's right, the last few weeks have been rather eventful - last month the 22-year-old quit One Direction, the boyband which made him famous. He then went on a sunshine break with his fiancée Perrie Edwards, he shaved his head, and made new music in the recording studio.
Zayn - who is currently working on solo music with producer Naughty Boy - has made it clear there is no ill feeling between him and his former bandmates, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, when he thanked the boys in his acceptance speech at the 2015 Asian Awards.
He said: "I'd also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I ever met whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things that I did.
"Some of the things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life."

His other sister Waliyha also posted a snap of the couple as they larked around on the Italian balcony.
Zayn quit One Direction last week after claiming he wanted to be a "normal 22-year-old" but he was spotted in a recording studio with producer Naughty Boy just a few days later. After days of speculation (and sobbing, for some) Zayn Malik has finally broken his silence about the reasons he left One Direction.
The pin-up broke hearts the world over, causing an internet meltdown on wednesday when he announced he had walked out on the chart-topping boy band, mid-way through their world tour, and today he has spoken for the first time, revealing why…
"It's not real to me."
The star, who was filmed crying on stage during his last performance, revealed to a national tabloid that he hasn't been happy for "a while", but had carried on to make other people, including his fans, happy. "It is crazy and wild and a bit mad," he said, "but at the same time I've never felt more in control in my life."
But Zayn was quick to quash any rumours of a feud within 1D, and revealed he expects them to carry on for a long time: "I'm only upset (because) I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way. That's the main thing that I don't want to happen. It's not that I've turned my back on them or anything, it's just that I just can't do that anymore because it's not real to me." He added that his bandmates have remained supportive, and they are still good friends. Phew.
Zayn has already been spotted heading back into the recording studio - fuelling rumours that the chiselled hottie could be carving out a solo career, but despite this, he has revealed that he's not rushing into anything, stating he simply wants to "chill" for a bit first.

Later, Harry Styles tweeted "All the love as always - H".
A few hours later Liam also posted a message: "So glad to be in bed after a long and strange 24 hours."
X Factor boss Simon Cowell also hit Twitter to ensure fans the band would be carrying on as normal as well as thanking their army of loyal fans for their support.
