Katy Perry recently debuted her buzz cut, making us all realise how damn stunning she is without any hair. Seriously, can we talk about how incredible she looks? She is the queen of rocking all kinds of hairstyles.
Cara Delevingne is another star who took the plunge with a totally shaved look for a role. She looked amazing at the MTV Movie Awards 2017 and proved that ultra short hair can look incredible.
In light of this celebrity buzz cut, Toni & Guy International Artistic Director and Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year, Indira Schauwecker has given her advice on whether you should dare to go bare.
What should you consider before getting a buzzcut?
It is extremely important that you are 100% committed to this style and have considered what comes with it. As it is a statement hairstyle, it will attract attention and questions which you will be need to prepared for, as well as a wardrobe change to add a feminine touch to the masculine style. You will also need to consider your head shape – if your head is flat, you will not have any hair to mask this and it will exaggerate your shape that you could normally hide. Thirdly, consider your profile – Indira’s tip for this is to tie your hair into a tight pony tail and take pictures from different angles to familiarise yourself with the style. And lastly, you need to keep in mind that you will no long have hair to hide behind, your face is fully exposed and this is something you need to be comfortable with.
What face shape features do they suit?
For most hairdressers, oval face shapes manage to pull off most styles. However, Indira enjoys the quirkiness of shaven heads with faces that are not perfect – she believes you need quirky features to compliment the quirky hairstyle.
If you're not quite ready to get a proper buzzcut what should you go for instead?
If you are not quite ready for proper buzzcut, you could start with a shorter style or you could shave the sides to give a feeling of no hair which exposes the face.

If you're slightly older - say over 35 - is this trend relevant for you? If no, is there a way you can still rock the buzzcut without going the whole hog?
Indira was 34 when she shaved her head which she enjoyed but endured comments and had to change her wardrobe as it was easy to look powerful/masculine. However, she strongly believes that is your personality rather than age that determines whether you can pull this look off. A strong, quirky personality goes hand in hand with this statement style.
What should you do when you don't want it anymore? Tips for handling the regrowth?
Because the hair is all the same length it is hard to grow out as it follows the head shape. Indira says the best way to grow it out is to focus on growing the perimeter areas. If you attempted to grow the hair out all at once, it will follow the shape of your head and be very rounded. If you cut the top short and grow the sides, similarly to that of a mullet, it will grow faster and square.
