Cowboy boots are the only piece of footwear you need this season so here's our definitive edit of the ones that are more fashion than fancy dress

Yee-haw 🤠

Truly hate to brag, but back in March - jet-lagged and delirious from a month of global fashion shows - we plucked 9 of the hottest AW18 trends that we predicted would dominate the fashion scene this winter.

Our footwear pick? The cowboy boot. And yee-haw - if you cast your beady eyes over the kicks adorning the hooves of the chicest people storming our very own high streets - it seems we may actually know what we're talking about (an enormous relief).

The catwalk take on a cowboy boot can best be described as 'souped up' - think glossy fabrics (another of our trend picks #nobigdeal), tough metal detailing and bold slogans.

But with their authentic feel and light and carefree attitude, we're also still very partial to a more traditional style.

An important point to note, however, is that cowboy boots come with a rule book - they don't, but they should - as the success of a look relies solely on how you wear them.

The number one rule? You must leave anything else with remotely western connotations at the ranch or rodeo (that includes denim, gingham and anything resembling a cowboy hat).

Instead, offset their toughness with a delicate midi-dress - preferably without a fussy pattern - layered atop a ribbed roll-neck, or a feminine, puffball mini for some real contrast.
