Emeli Sandé is a Scottish singer and song-writer. Although she always wanted to be a musician, Emeli put her education first and chose to study medicine at the University of Glasgow, before leaving in her fourth year to pursue her career seriously. She first entered the spotlight when she featured on Chipmunk's song Diamond Rings, in 2009, and then later with Wiley on 2010's Never Be Your Woman, before signing a record deal with Virgin in 2010. Emeli released her first single, Heaven, in August 2011 and since then has had two number one singles as well as gaining a number one spot for album, Our Version of Events. Emeli was named Critics Choice at the 2012 BRIT Awards and performed at both the London 2012 Olympic Opening and Closing ceremony. Continuing her repertoire of honourable performances Emeli sang in an award ceremony hosted by President Obama, at the White House in Washington.
