Halle Berry

Ohio-born actress Halle Berry made history in 2001 when she
became the first woman of African-American descent to win an
Academy Award For Best Actress for her role in controversial drama
Monster's Ball. She started her career on the beauty queen circuit
before becoming a model, then landing a long-running role on TV
drama Knots Landing. She came to big screen prominence in
Spike Lee's Jungle Fever in 1991 and roles in Strictly Business,
Boomerang, Flintstones, Bulworth, X-Men, Gothika and Catwoman,
amongst others, followed. She also won the auspicious role of Bond
Girl Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson in 2002's Die Another Day, in which
she emulated the infamous Ursula Andress bikini scene. Berry has
been married twice - to baseball player David Justice and musician
Eric Benét, whose daughter, India, she adopted. She has another
daughter, Nahla Ariela, who was born in March 2008 after a romance
with model Gabriel Aubry. Berry takes a philanthropic interest in
domestic violence charities, having been affected as a child, and
is an ambassador for Revlon.
