Joanne Froggatt is a British actress of stage, television and film, most notably appearing in Downton Abbey as Anna the head housemaid. Originally from Littlebeck, a village in North Yorkshire, she moved to Whitby, when her parents started a rare breed sheep farm. Joanne then left her family home at 13 to attend the Redroofs Theatre School in Berkshire. In 1996 she made her TV debut in the ITV drama The Bill, and went on to star in other British soaps. However it wasn't until 2010, when she won Best Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards, that Joanne started to be noticed. It is also the same year that she began in her most famous role in hit drama series Downton Abbey. She received an Emmy nomination in 2012 for this part.
