Edward Thomas 'Tom' Hardy is an English actor who was born and raised in London by an artist mother and a comedy writer father. After a private and drama school education, Hardy kick-started his career starring in war dramas, including HBO series United States Army, and acclaimed BBC mini-series Band Of Brothers. His shot at the big time came when he was cast in Ridley Scott's modern classic Black Hawk Dawn (2001). He went on to star in several big films, including Layer Cake (2004), Inception (2010), Warrior (2011) and Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy (2011). He also scored the role of Bane in Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Hardy married Sarah Ward in 1999, but they divorced in 2004. He has a son, Louis Thomas Hardy (born 8 April 2008), with his ex-girlfriend Rachel Speed. He got engaged to girlfriend Charlotte Riley in July 2010, but broke it off in February 2011. He married actress Charlotte Riley in July 2014. Hardy has been teetotal since 2003, after battling addiction in his early 20s. He has admitted to being bisexual in the past.
